Bentresh smiles at you with too many teeth. 'The road goes on,' she says, in a man's voice. 'It goes on and on.'
'Father sold salt to the sand people,' Bentresh whispers. 'I came back. Some of me came back.'
'I'm starving,' says Bentresh, on her third date loaf. 'I've been starving for a month.'
'Father says I'm never going out with the caravans again. Father says that every time.'
