- Stage 1
Hori carried the god's barque at the last Feast of Opet, the night Pharaoh Seneferu-Ka died. Nobody has ever asked him what he saw. He asked me to talk to Amenmose, the cupbearer at Thebes Palace, about the king's cup.

Amenmose broke the seal on the king's wine himself, but a young servant nobody knew handed the king the cup. A Memphite, by his accent. Hori wants me to ask Meritamun, a singer of Amun, at the Temple of Amun.

Meritamun saw the servant slip away towards the river with the empty cup held like something precious. He wore red under his white linen. Hori wants to see my scarab amulet: I should take it off and use it on him.

Hori told me the last thing he saw: that night Pharaoh wore a scarab at his throat, blue-green like mine. In the morning it was gone. I think the gods are keeping this one for later.
