Anubis, Lord of the Sacred Land

Black-skinned and jackal-headed, standing beside the great balance with the feather of Ma'at on one pan. He has weighed every heart that ever came west. He's very good at it.

Overheard

*Anubis weighs a dead man's heart. The balance settles. He nods, and the dead man goes on west, weeping with relief.*
The vizier went round. When he comes back this way, and everyone comes back this way, I'll weigh him twice.
Your heart was light. Keep it that way. It's harder for the living than for the dead.
The shrine by my throne binds the ka of anyone who prays there. Rise here when you fall, if you like. It's a short walk to the scales.
