The quest journal, step by step.
- Start
Wenamun, an elder of the house of Amun, is sitting on the quay at Byblos Harbour, writing something long and bitter. (Requires The Wells of the Ways and Handicraft 60.)
- Stage 1
Wenamun came to Byblos to buy cedar for Amun's great barque, but he was robbed of his silver on the way and Prince Zakarbaal won't sell. Wenamun asked me to speak to the prince, in the city.

Zakarbaal won't give Amun's cedar away for nothing, as his father didn't. Egypt pays in papyrus: he'll take five sheets as earnest of the rest.

Zakarbaal took the papyrus, and then admitted the real trouble: a red-robed buyer offered silver for every cedar on the mountain, 'for a barque that sails by night', and when the prince refused, sent his own men up to cut it. I should drive the Coil's timber-thieves out of the Cedar Forest, south of the city: four of them.

The timber-thieves are gone, and Zakarbaal's shipwrights will show me how to hew cedar into ship timbers (Handicraft 60, with a knife and a hammer). Wenamun needs timbers for the god's barque.

Cedar ship timbers - Stage 5
I have cedar ship timbers. I should bring them to Wenamun at Byblos Harbour.
- Complete
Wenamun is sailing home with Amun's cedar and a very long report. Zakarbaal's cedar ships will carry me between Byblos and Gaza, and his shipwrights taught me to make cedar bows and shields.
