The quest journal, step by step.
- Start
Neferabet the scribe at Khmun has a letter from his master. (Requires The Ibis and the Crocodile and Endurance 30.)
- Stage 1
The keeper's letter says the fourth scarab sleeps in Akhetaten, the heretic's city, where people still worship the Aten, the sun-disk. I should find their leader, the Seer of the Disk, in the north of the ruins.

Merire, the Seer of the Disk, won't believe the Coil is coming for her people until she sees it. The Coil is already raiding the south-east of the ruins: I should kill six of their raiders.
To do: Kill 6 × Coil raiderUpdated by talking to Merire, Seer of the Disk - Stage 3
The raiders are dead, and every one had a coiled snake on his wrist. Merire's chamberlain Tutu has vanished. I should talk to Merire.
- Stage 4
I trusted Merire, and she trusted me: she broke the altar's seal with her own hands. Something vast uncoiled from beneath it: Hefau, the Horizon-Swallower. It has to die. It lurks in the north-east of the ruins.
To do: Kill 1 × Hefau, the Horizon-SwallowerUpdated by talking to Merire, Seer of the Disk - Stage 5
I overruled Merire and broke the altar's seal myself while she wept. Something vast uncoiled from beneath it: Hefau, the Horizon-Swallower. It has to die. It lurks in the north-east of the ruins.
To do: Kill 1 × Hefau, the Horizon-SwallowerUpdated by talking to Merire, Seer of the Disk - Stage 6
Hefau is dead, but while it was trying to eat me, Tutu took the scarab from the altar and ran. Where he stood, in the north palace, an image of the vizier burns in the air. I should talk to it.
- Stage 7
The vizier is the master of the Coil: the Mouth of the Coil, they call him. He spoke to me through an image of himself, sent by Heka. He has the fourth scarab now. Kasaya should hear of this, in Memphis.
Updated by talking to Image of the vizier - Stage 8
Kasaya points out that the vizier sits in his palace in Memphis every day, and in his palace in Thebes on the same days. She suggests a test: a man eats. I should offer the vizier in the Memphis palace a loaf of bread.
To do: UseBread on Vizier PtahhotepUpdated by talking to Kasaya
- Stage 9
The vizier in the palace is a shabti: a life-sized servant figure of painted faience, answering 'Egypt endures' to anything. I should tell Kasaya.
- Complete
The vizier's shabtis rule in his place while the man himself is elsewhere, with the fourth scarab. Kasaya has gone quiet in a way I don't like. The heretic's sun is gone, but I learned the Rays of the Aten from the hymn on the altar.
