Walkthrough

The quest journal, step by step.

  1. Start

High Priest Ptahmose has been reading the belly of the Scarab of the Apis. (Requires The White Walls and Endurance 25.)

  2. Stage 1

The scarab's riddle says: 'Where the ibis writes, the next hour sleeps.' Ptahmose thinks that means Khmun, Thoth's city in Middle Egypt, where the keeper Djehutyemhat guards an archive. I should find him, or his scribe Neferabet.

  3. Stage 2

Khmun's archive was burned. The keeper fled to the Faiyum with the third scarab, and the Coil went after him. Neferabet gave me a letter in the keeper's cipher for Kaha, the crocodile-keeper at Shedet, who will know where he went.

  4. Stage 3

Kaha says Neferhotep, the First Prophet of Sobek, sold the keeper to the Coil. He's held in the old reed-pens on the west shore of the Faiyum lake, guarded by Coil croc-priests. I should kill five of them.

To do: Kill 5 × Coil croc-priestUpdated by talking to Kaha the crocodile-keeper
  5. Stage 4

The croc-priests are dead. I should talk to the keeper in the reed-pens.

  6. Stage 5

Rather than give the scarab to the Coil, Djehutyemhat threw it to Sobek's Heir, the young crocodile being raised to follow Petsuchos, who swallowed it. The Coil has been feeding the beast on chaos ever since, and it has grown. It lurks on the north-west shore of the lake, where the desert comes down to the water. It has to die.

To do: Kill 1 × Sobek's HeirUpdated by talking to Djehutyemhat
  7. Stage 6

Sobek's Heir is dead, and the scarab is out of it. (Don't ask.) I should take it to Djehutyemhat in the reed-pens.

  8. Stage 7

The keeper is too weak to travel. He asked me to take the Scarab of the Ibis to his scribe Neferabet at Khmun, who knows the words to set it.

  9. Complete

Neferabet set the Scarab of the Ibis, gave me his master's staff, and taught me the Wings of Thoth. The keeper told me something that chills me: the Coil only ever asked him one question. Where is the seventh hour?
